OPC Xi Implementation and Demo Project Launch
The OPC Xi (Express Interface) Implementation and Demo project was launched last week to help Xi developers adapt the Xi Reference Implementation code to their own products. The project is open to all OPC members, and will be conducted solely through web meetings. The meetings will be recorded and made available to OPC members. Anyone wishing to attend or needing more information should contact Lee Neitzel at Lee.Neitzel@Emerson.com.
Client and server implementations resulting from this project will be interoperability tested, first over the Internet, and then at the next OPC Interop tentatively planned for May of this year.
The OPC Foundation is hosting a WebDemo on June 29th highlighting Xi access to OPC DA, HDA, and A&E servers by 3-D client applications, Microsoft Silverlight applications, and hand-held devices.
The Xi Specification and Reference Implementation code is available from the OPC Foundation: www.opcfoundation.org/downloads.aspx and the Xi Specification and base server code is also available from the OPC Training Institute: www.opcti.com/opc-xi-specification.aspx.
About OPC Xi Technology
OPC Express Interface (OPC Xi) is the newest OPC specification from the OPC Foundation. Based on Microsoft's .NET framework, OPC Xi enables a smooth migration from Classic OPC and supports communication through firewalls. Industrial plants have been successfully using OPC for the secure transportation of process control and automation data since 1996. To help with rapid application development using .NET, the OPC Foundation released OPC Xi (OPC Express Interface) in 2010.
